It is the inflammation of the conjunctiva (lining membrane of the eyelids) characterized by 
redness, swelling, and secretions. Conjunctivitis is sometimes called “pink eye” and it is mainly due to a bacterial or viral infection. The most common cause is a viral infection with adenovirus being the predominant virus. It may occur occasionally due to allergies or nutritional deficiencies.
Pink eye may look like subconjunctival hemorrhage.
